What is Optofluidics?

Integrating Nanophotonics and Microfluidics

The aim of this project is to combine the nano-scale photonic structures built in our lab which include various types of resonators and photonic crystal lasers with elastomeric microfluidics. For instance, photonic cavities can be tuned with an electric voltage. Using microfluidics to insert quantum dots into the cavity will allow us to build optical gates. Another example is the use of ring resonaters to build sensors that dectect changes in refractive index within microfluidics channels.
